Cranberry Isles.

Miss Mary A. Carroll's school district
No. 1 closed June 23. Four scholars were
not absent one-half day -- Elwood J. Spur-
ling, Percy E. Bunker, Frank Wedge, Os-
car Wedge. Absent only one-half day:
Ernest W. Spurling, Willie F. Spurling.

During the last years of the Rev. B.F.
Stinson's life he used to preach regularly
at Cranberry Island. Since his death,
which occurred Nov. 19, 1887, there has
been but little regular preaching on the
Islands. This summer there is some
preaching on Islesford supplied by clergy-
men who are spending the season there.
Rev. Charles Whittier, general missionary
for eastern Maine, who supplies preaching
and general pastoral care to churches with-
out a pastor, spent January and part of
April with the Congregational church at
Tremont. While there he learned that
Cranberry Isles had no regular pastor. So
in July he came again to Tremont, and
went to Cranberry Isles where he preached
two Sundays on the large island, and vis-
ited the people at their homes. He has
now gone to Springfield, Me. If the peo-
ple of Cranberry Isles would make a united
effort they could, with the help of Mr.
Whittier, secure the services of a regular
pastor. They are a prosperous communi-
ty, and can support one pastor easier than
some towns can support three or four.
