GIFTS – STANLEY CEMETERY
As you can see, the 180-year-old Stanley cemetery had fallen into dire circumstances. Of the seven cemeteries on Great Cranberry Island, it was in the worst condition.
Under the Great Cranberry Island Historical Society (GCIHS), the Committee to Preserve the Stanley Cemetery on Bulger Hill contracted with Fred Wieninger of Wieninger Monuments in the summer of 2014 to conserve this historic cemetery. Generous islanders contributed $10,000, and the Church donated the rest. Maintaining the cemetery is an ongoing expense.
Donations are tax deductible and can be mailed to the Stanley Cemetery Preservation Project, Great Cranberry Island Historical Society, P.O. Box 12, Cranberry Isles, ME 04625, with checks made payable to the GCIHS marked “for the Stanley cemetery restoration.” The committee and the islanders are very grateful for the generous and varied types of support we’ve received in the past and rely on this good will for the future.
Sincerely, Chris Johnston, Chair
